Dicks and Dick Like Accessories

We would like to think that, yes, you can totally say and talk about dicks here at critdmg. We insist! We’re a bunch of dicks ourselves.

On a more serious note, maybe Nintendo’s shareholders should invest in things more their style. Cause I mean, who invests in video games and then gets upset when said investment talks mostly about video games and the future thereof? Maybe you want they should talk about something else? Like… maybe pet rocks? I heard that guy made a million dollars. Surely there’s something still there? It’s a whole new generation! They won’t have heard of it before!

You heard it here first folks, so you know it’s “True™,” Pet rocks making a comeback*, order now!

*Not really… but could you imagine?

Net Neutrality would totally kill competition guys!

And if you believe that, then I have a super successful triple a video game company that I own that I would like to sell you.

Look, in America, we’re getting laughed at about a lot of things. Education, our ability to play soccer, and our shitty shitty internet brought to you by the likes of AT&T, Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner, all of whom have gotten huge grants and tax breaks to increase the speed of the internet over the past 10 years.

Common man, is 800Mb/s down and say… 500Mb/s up really too much to ask for?

Don’t you dare stream other games while waiting for a match in Riot’s League of Legends

A lot of these streamers make a living from advertisements played on their stream. If they are looking at the 30min+ wait times between matches without being able to play other things during that down time, they are going to lose viewers or just stop playing LoL. Either is bad for Riot as it not only paints them in a bad, totalitarian light, it opens can easily cause loss of eyes on their games as streamers say, “fuck this” and just go play something else. Sure, there are those that will stick with Riot out of some sense of obligation, but there will be just that many less eyeballs on their product.

Rioters are gamers. We love games. As we strive to create the best player experiences, it’s important that we understand play beyond the Fields of Justice. This means that we play games – and not just our own. The new Riot Play Fund encourages plentiful play by giving each Rioter $300 to spend freely on any video game, whether MOBA, FPS, console or PC. We’re equal opportunity players here. Rioters improve their gaming skills and report back with what they’ve learned during their research. We then apply these learnings in the work we do.

Do as we say, not as we do?

OUYA Dev Consoles to Ship on Time!

The OUYA is looking less and less like vaporware. I’m glad to see that something I invested money in is coming to life. I don’t normally throw my money at Kickstarter projects, but I thought the OUYA was something incredibly special. I’m looking forward to receiving mine in early 2013!

On the OUYA website, JulesKane writes:

To the hundreds of developers who backed us through Kickstarter to get their hands on our advance dev consoles: Mark your calendars! On December 28, they leave the factory and should arrive within a couple of days (we’ve heard that Turkey and Russia might take a bit longer). Yes, we are shipping these to you on time, as promised.

Joystick Labs Shuts Down, Indie Devs Once Again in Monetary Limbo

Looks like someone learned that the indie gaming scene is tougher than the startup scene.

The group blamed a harsh independent video game climate for shutting down the program, saying that getting a digital game noticed is more difficult than it had realized.

“It has become very difficult for an independent developer to get noticed,” managing director John Austin told local New England-area outlet The News & Observer. “For every Angry Birds, there are literally tens of thousands of great companies not getting noticed.”
